Muna is married. Her husband is an engineer and had his own security company in Iraq before
they had to flee. He developed and installed security systems for homes and businesses. He is
unable to work now that they are in Amman without legal residency status.
They have 4 children - three daughters: Rasha -16, Rafal -12, and Rania -4 months old. Their only
son, Abdullah, is 10 years old.
They left Iraq because many of Muna's and her husband's family members and friends were killed.
They were very afraid for their children and they decided to leave before one of them was killed
too. They left their home and their business and just packed up whatever they could in their car
and came to Amman.
Muna has received a video / still camera so that she can film weddings and take portraits in order
to help support her family when one of our donors, John, celebrated his birthday, inviting his
guests to contribute to buy this camera for Muna in lieu of gifts for him.
Muna and the Collateral Repair Project thank John and his friends for their generosity and caring!

THE SISTERS' STORY
as told by CRP team member, Manal
Nadia and her sister Badia they were living with
their parents and their five brothers in Samarra
province north of Iraq, while their other sister
Fadia was living with her husband and kids in an
independent house in same province.
Nadia and Badia had a small saloon for
hairdressing inside their house.
In1998, Nadia married a Jordanian citizen and
moved to live with him in Jordan, now she has a
kid of eight years old his name is (Sakhar), also,
she had a daughter but, unfortunately she died at
age of two years because she was suffering from
heart disease.
Also, her son Sakhar is suffering from the same
disease of his dead sister, he has a hole in his
heart and the arteries of his lung are very weak
and narrow, the doctors here in Jordan advised
Nadia and her husband to do a surgery for the kid
abroad.
Nadia and her husband spent all their money to
treat their son, now they are penniless living in a
rented room by 50 Jordanian dinar monthly.
Moreover, Nadia did not allow her son to attend
school because she is afraid that her son could
be infected with virus and that is very dangerous
for his life, according to the doctors advice.
As for Badia, she is the youngest sister, fled to
Jordan with her young brothers two years ago due
to the bad circumstances in Iraq, especially in
Samarra province, but, the jordanian border did
not allow her young brothers to enter
Jordan, therefore, her young brothers returned to
Iraq again.
Now, Badia lives with her sister Nadia in the same
rented room.(Badia is not married, 24 years old).
Nadia's brother, Amer, 33 years old, have been
killed by American forces during his driving with
his father on their way to house, An american
vehicles convoy opened fire on their car as a
result for this action, Nadia's father lost his right
eye and his hand is paralyzed, while Amer,
Nadia's brother was completely burned inside the
car and died immediately. This horrible accident
took place on 19/9/2003.
Amer left two orphan kids(a boy of ten years old
and a girl of five years old) and a widow, his
widow and kids are living now with their
grandfather in Samarra province and nobody help
them,except God and the grandfather.
Nadia's parents house was shot down by
american shells,so, they hired another house in
same province.
Thanks to your generous donations, these sisters now have their home salon!

Rukaya's Story -
as told by CRP Team member Manal
Ruqaya was an employee in
Al-Rasheed bank in Baghdad
province, lived with her husband and
two daughter and two boys, her
husband is a mechanic engineer.
Ruqaya's husband is very ill, they
came to Jordan six months before
invading Iraq to improve their lifes
because of the international blockade
which imposed on Iraq at that time, so,
they left their house.
Ruqaya's sister and her husband
moved to live in Ruqaya's house in
order to protect it from robbery.
But later on after invasion, the militias
threatened Ruqaya's sister and her
husband to leave the house,
otherwise, they would be killed. So,
they left the house immediately and
the militias took the house.
When Ruqaya's husband heard this
news he got a heart clot, now his
condition is very bad and he doesn't
work because of his serious condition.
Now, they are living by the financial
assistance (JD120) which they get it
from "CARE" organisation monthly, this
sum is not enough for paying their rent
(JD170) and life expenses.

Your kindness purchased used leather coats and the tools Rukaya needs to make her wallets. You also purchased a heavy-duty sewing machine to make her work easier Thank you!

UPDATE - by CRP Team member Sanaa
After Rukaya's project started which was purchasing an industrial
sewing machine for her in order to make lather pocket wallet out of old
used different color lather jackets ,after taking it apart and cut it
according to a certain models she has. I found her and her husband
both were busy in doing those wallets after her kids went to their schools
which I found a suitable time to do her job .Her husband helping her in
marketing the out come as well as searching for the old jackets to buy
as a basic materials .She was complaining of the low income ,so I
encouraged her to be patient and to continue work because it is just a
start.
UPDATE by CRP Team member Sanaa
I visited” Badeia &Nadeia” hairdressing salon, I found their salon very well arranged, clean, tidy and ready for customers .I had a good chat with
them about their business. Their work was still slow and confined to a number of people because of the lack of publicity .So they intended to go
to the customers houses to make the work public .But in general their work is going well because of their cheap fares .They are trying hard.
UPDATE by CRP Team Member, Sanaa
As you know photography in Muna’s hobby having a camera was a dream in order to support her family. You came and made her dream reality.
She is trying to increase her income by using the camera, but the rate of inflation which is going too fast make her work harder. She is advertising
about herself through her friends and neighbors. We wish her the best of luck on her future work.
UPDATE by CRP Team member, Sanaa
The third one on my visits program was
to” Um Mohammed" (Ikhlas) whom you
bought an industrial sewing machine for
her .From my visit to her like the others ,
she facing some difficulties because of
the lack of publicity in her district
surrounding .But as you know she lives
in public area ,she started to do some
simple sewing work for her neighbors
which probably leads her to their
relatives and friends .So she has started
her project with little income.

Iklas (Um Mohammed)
Your donations purchased an industrial sewing machine
for Iklas last October (read the report here: #2 October
Projects)
When Sasha and Mary visited this family when they were
in Amman, they were in very difficult circumstances.
Tahoma, the only daughter, was suffering a set-back with
her Mediterranean anemia. Their home was cold with
moisture dripping from the walls and it was woefully
empty - with only shabby hand-me-down furniture. One
of Tohama's triplet brothers, who has a learning
disability, was exhausting this mother with his
challenging behaviors and hyperactivity.
On top of all of this, Iklas tearfully told us that she had to
sell her sewing machine as she needed an emergency
surgery and had no other resources.
Several miracles happened for this family because of
people like you, hearing of their plight and coming
forward to offer to help by "Being Collateral Repair"....

Maureen and her family in the US sent funds to buy rugs, a heater, furniture and toys for this family!
|
And then, Frances in southern Oregon sent funds for Iklas to buy a sewing machine to replace the one she had to sell to pay for her surgery! Now she has joined our Women's Craft Co-operative
|
Also, through your caring and contributions, Iklas' son, Ibrahim, is able to attend Edrak School under our project to provide education for children with special needs - not only providing Ibrahim with the education he needs, but giving Iklas time to devote to her sewing Thank you!

"Alia" (wishes to remain anonymous) is from a prestigious family in Baghdad. She attended boarding school and then University in
the UK. She never married but was a successful business woman and traveled widely in her work, living part of her adult life in
England before returning home to Iraq in the 90's.
She, like so many of Iraq's formerly well-off, has used all of her savings and lost her home and all of it's belongings in Iraq. Her
family helped her financially for a long while but her mother needed nursing care for the last few years of her life and :"Um Alia"
refused to accept money from her family when she knew that it was all needed for her mother's care. She was close to being
destitute. She cannot work in Jordan as she does not have legal residency. Her one marketable skill in her current
circumstances is being bilingual in Arabic and English.
Your contributions bought "Alia" a used computer and paid for 3 months of internet so that she can work doing translations
|
UPDATE: "Alia"is now getting some work doing translations for university dissertations and sending out her CV in hope of getting translation jobs for media, activists,
and others who travel to Jordan. * If you are going to be traveling to Jordan and need a skilled translator, contact us*
Manal and Sanaa are members of our CRP Amman Team.
These two very dedicated women work tirelessly to develop and
implement our projects in Amman with CRP Amman Team leader,
Maha. They are both refugees from Iraq and their stories are
tragic. Soon we hope to include them here. The empathy they've
gained from their experiences makes them great assets in our
work with others who share similar stories of loss and grief.
Both of these wonderful women are living by meager means, also
unable to take legal employment in Jordan. In appreciation for the
work they do for CRP and in order to help them accomplish it,

Your donations have purchased a sewing machine for Sanaa so that she can be a part of our craft co-op as she takes an active part in its organization... and are paying for internet connection for Manal so that she can be efficient in writing and sending reports to us
We at CRP are grateful to you for assisting these wonderful women in being so committed to our work
and to YOU for your support of all of our projects. Thank you
|
UPDATE: Manal Thank you for providing
me with the internet service at home, which
saves me money and time .While in the past,
i.e, before I have to go to the internet café in
order to send an e-mail to CRP in addition to
the money I was spent there. In addition to
that I had to go to the café on a certain day
and on a certain hours of those days.
But after I got the service at home I can use
any day and any time of the day without any
constraints to serve the project by sending
the reports CRP needs
UPDATE Sanaa:
First of all I would like to thank you for providing me
with a sewing machine, which in turn reduced much
of our family financial suffering on our hand and
spare a lot of time we were spend to take our
belonging to the tailor to be mended or to be done.
After you provide us with the machine which is in the
first place to execute the craft ideas and to help my
family in the second place. This machine makes me
able to do beautiful shopping bags.
At last I would like to thank you again for yout great
effort to help people through this project
