Micro-projects to assist families in Amman that have been funded by your generous contributions - Oct 2007
|
This is Enas: She has two children - her daughter, Reem who is 5 years old, and her 1
year old son, Kayser.
Enas is married and her husband works as a house painter whenever he can find work.
When they lived in Bagdad, he made decorative woodworking in a style that is not as
popular in Jordan as it is in Iraq. He and Enas also owned a beauty salon in Baghdad.
Now this family cannot work legally because they, as most Iraqis who've fled the violence
of Iraq, do not have residency permits.
Enas had been working as a hair dresser in her home in Amman but her hair dryer was
old and broken.
Your contributions made it possible for Enas to get a new large hair dryer, blowdryer,
hair brushes and a straightening rod.
She is so happy and grateful!

PROJECT 2 Sewing Machine for Um Mohammed
|
Um Mohammed (Iklass) and her husband are from Mosul. Her
husband gets part-time work as a carpenter when he can but,
without a residency permit that would allow him to legally work in
Jordan, he only gets jobs infrequently.
This couple has 5 children: Mohammed 11 years old, Ali, 10 years,
and 6 year old triplets --Tohama and her two brothers, Mostafa and
Ibrahim.
Two of the triplets have medical problems. Mostafa is healthy but
Ibrahim is handicapped, he is not talking but very active. He is not in
school; no school will accept him. Tohama has kidney problems. She
is able to attend school.
Enas said that she was a teacher in a sewing school before leaving
Iraq. Your contributions purchased a sewing machine for her so she
can support her family by doing sewing for neighbors.
Enas's children are also recipients of the Collateral Repair Project's
School Supplies 4 Kids project.
PROJECT # 3 Home Salon Supplies and Equipment for Um Ali
|
Um Ali and her husband are from Basra. Her husband works in a garage
making poor wages because of not having a residency permit.
There are three children in this family - a daughter, Ayat who is 12, and two
sons, Ali (age 10) and Zain Elabdin (5 years old). The children are all in school.
The two eldest children have a blood disorder that requires that Um Ali insert
medication into their stomachs during the night for 8 hours. They both need
bone marrow transplants but this would cost $175,000 - an unobtainable sum
for this desperately poor family.
Although exhausted with worry and caring for her ill children, Um Ali wanted to
begin a simple home hair salon. Your donations purchased a chair for her
clients, wall mirror, table, cupboard for supplies, hair dryer, and rack for her
towels. She is happy as she is now prepared to take clients who want their hair
done for Eid and this business will help to keep her mind off of her sadness
while helping to support her family.
PROJECT 4 A Sewing Machine for Um Abbas
|
Um Abbas and her husband have a small bread baking business in
their home but, as our other families, without legal residency in
Jordan, they cannot operate as a regular bakery so their income
from this is very small - hardly enough to take care of their 5 children
- 15 year old Abbas, Mohammed - 14 years old, their only daughter,
9 year old Tebba, 5 year old Sajjad, and Hissain who is only 3.
Um Abbas is skilled in making Iraqi traditional clothing. Your
contributions purchased a sewing machine for her so that she can
provide income for her family by making this clothing to be sold
through our crafts cooperative by fair trade and by doing sewing jobs
for her neighbors.
